How Dunk Tank plays
- Set your bet.
- A multiplier climbs while the round runs.
- Tap Cash out to lock in the multiplier shown.
The rule people miss: If the round ends before you cash out, you lose the bet.
Dunk Tank is a short cash-out game played with virtual coins. You sit over the water while five throws are fired at the target. Each throw that misses lifts the multiplier; a throw that hits dunks you and the bet is lost, so the skill is deciding when to tap Cash out (lock in the multiplier you have).
How a round works
- Set your bet and start the round. A multiplier clock begins climbing.
- Throws arrive at fixed moments, roughly 1.1, 2.5, 3.9, 5.2 and 6.6 seconds in. Each is already decided on our servers when the round starts; the result appears about a quarter of a second after the throw.
- A miss steps the pay up to the next level in the table. A hit dunks you and ends the round.
- Tap Cash out at any time after the first throw to be paid the level you last reached.
- If you are still in after the fifth throw, the round pays 25x by itself.
The pay does not creep up between throws. It sits at a level until the next throw is resolved, which means a tap just before a throw is paid the same as a tap just after the previous one.
Pay and survival chance of each throw
| Throw | Chance of getting past | Pays |
|---|---|---|
| Throw 1 | 77.6% | 1.25x |
| Throw 2 | 60.63% | 1.6x |
| Throw 3 | 38.8% | 2.5x |
| Throw 4 | 19.4% | 5x |
| Throw 5, pays by itself | 3.88% | 25x |
The chance column is the chance the round gets past that throw, counted from the start. Read across: 1.25x is reached in 77.6% of rounds, but 25x in only 3.88%.
Worked example
Bet 100 coins and cash out between throw 2 and throw 3. You hold the 1.6x level, so you are paid 160 coins. You only get there in 60.6% of rounds.
Now suppose you stay in. The chance of surviving throw 3 once you have survived throw 2 is 38.8 / 60.625, which is 64%. The pay would move from 160 to 250 coins. Staying in is worth 0.64 x 250 = 160 coins on average, exactly what you would have banked. Each rung is priced so that taking it or leaving it is the same bet. The per-throw survival chances work out to 77.6%, 78.1%, 64%, 50% and 20%.
Max win and limits
The 25x top is far below the game-wide limit of 50,000x the bet and 250,000,000 coins per round, so those caps never come into play. Reaching it needs five clean throws in a row, which happens in about 1 round in 26.
What matters and what does not
- Timing of your tap inside a gap: does not matter. The result of the next throw is already fixed, and your tap just claims the level currently showing.
- Reaction speed: matters only for being sure you tap before the next throw lands, not for beating the odds.
- Which level you aim for: changes the shape of your results. Cashing out at 1.25x wins 77.6% of the time for a small gain; aiming for 5x wins 19.4% of the time.
All levels return the same 97% over many rounds. No pattern in earlier rounds changes the next one. For the idea behind that, see how crash-style games work.
How it differs from Crash
Crash uses a smooth curve that can end at any moment. Dunk Tank is a ladder with only five places where the round can end, so you always know the next danger point and how likely it is. Compare it with the other timed games, such as Ferris Wheel (twelve small steps) and Home Run (27 pitches that multiply what you hold).
Play with limits
Coins are virtual, have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn or exchanged for prizes. The game is for adults (18+) and entertainment only. Pick a time limit before you begin; see playing safely in Cashout Arcade.
Frequently asked questions
When can I cash out in Dunk Tank?
Any time after the first throw has been decided. You are paid the multiplier of the last throw you got past, and the pay only changes at the throws.
Is cashing out early better than waiting?
Neither is better on average. Every throw is priced so that the expected return is 97% whichever point you cash out at. Early gives frequent small wins; waiting gives rare big ones.
How much can Dunk Tank pay?
The fifth throw is "dunk-proof" and pays 25x the bet on its own if you are still in the tank. That is also the most the game can pay.
