Crash: How It Works, Odds and Payouts

Crash in Cashout Arcade: a live multiplier climbs until it crashes. The curve, the chance of reaching each multiplier, auto cash-out and the grace window.

On this page

How Crash plays

  1. Set your bet. You can set an auto cash out.
  2. The multiplier climbs from 1.00x.
  3. Tap Cash out before it crashes.

The rule people miss: If it crashes before you cash out, you lose the bet.

Crash is a live multiplier game. After you place a bet, a number starts at 1.00x and climbs; you tap Cash out to lock in the multiplier you see, and if the number crashes first, the bet is lost. You can also set an auto cash-out so the game taps for you.

Coins in Cashout Arcade are virtual and have no cash value, and "cash out" here only means locking in a multiplier on your bet.

How a round works

  1. Set your bet. Optionally set an auto cash-out anywhere from 1.01x to 50,000x, in steps of 0.01.
  2. The multiplier climbs from 1.00x.
  3. Tap Cash out before it crashes. Your bet is paid at the multiplier you locked in.
  4. If it crashes first, the bet is lost.

The crash point is chosen on our servers when the round starts and is not revealed until a cash-out could no longer succeed, so watching the live state gives nothing away. A manual cash-out needs at least 1.01x; the first fraction of a second is too early to tap.

The curve: how fast it climbs

The multiplier follows a smooth exponential curve: m = e^(0.00006 x milliseconds), shown rounded down to two decimals. That works out to roughly 6% growth every second, so the climb feels slow at first and then speeds up.

MultiplierTime to reach itChance a round gets that far
1.50x6.8 s64.67%
2.00x11.6 s48.50%
3.00x18.3 s32.33%
5.00x26.8 s19.40%
10.00x38.4 s9.70%
50.00x65.2 s1.94%
100.00x76.8 s0.97%
1,000.00x115.1 s0.097%

The third column is the whole game. The chance that a round reaches any multiplier m is 0.97 divided by m, so a 2x target is reached 48.5% of the time, not 50%. Multiplying chance by payout gives 0.97 at every row. That is a return to player of 97%, whichever multiplier you aim for.

A worked example

Bet 100 coins with an auto cash-out at 3.00x. The round reaches 3.00x with probability 0.97 / 3 = 32.33%, so you win 300 coins about one round in three and lose 100 the rest of the time. Over many rounds that averages 0.3233 x 300 = 97 coins returned per 100 bet.

Now aim for 1.50x instead. You win 150 coins 64.67% of the time. The average is again 0.6467 x 150 = 97 coins. The two plans are different experiences, not different bargains: the low target wins often and slowly, the high one rarely and in bursts.

The rounds that end at 1.00x

Because the chance of reaching 1.01x is 0.97 / 1.01 = 96.04%, the other 3.96% of rounds crash at 1.00x. Nobody can cash out of those. This is not a trick on top of the game; it is the 3% house edge showing up at the start of the curve, and it is the same for every player and every bet size.

The network grace window

Taps travel over the internet, so the server allows a short grace period of 150 milliseconds. A cash-out that reaches the server within that window after the crash is still judged on the multiplier you claimed, and anything later on an already-crashed round loses. The window is deliberately small, so a very slow connection can cost you a round you thought you won. If your connection is unreliable, an auto cash-out is decided on the server and is not affected by your tap travelling.

What is the same as other cash-out games

Crash has no tiles or steps, but its pricing rule is the same as Mines: how to play, odds and RTP and the other cash-out games: every point on the curve returns 0.97 on average. Limbo: How It Works, Odds and Payouts is the same crash curve with the waiting removed: you pick the target first and the result is instant. The How Crash Games Work: Multipliers, Cash Out, Odds guide explains the maths in more depth, and How cash-out games work compares all the cash-out games.

Max win and caps

No round pays more than 50,000x the bet or 250,000,000 coins, and the highest auto cash-out you can set is 50,000x. A round gets that far about once in 51,546 (0.97 divided by 50,000). The odds page lists the rules that apply to every game.

Tips that hold up

  • There is no best moment to cash out. Every moment returns 97% on average, so cashing out early or late changes how your results swing, not what they average.
  • Past crashes do not predict the next one. A run of low crashes does not make a high one "due".
  • Use auto cash-out if you want a rule. Deciding the target before the round starts removes the pressure of the climb.
  • Bet size is your control. The only lever that changes how much you can lose is the bet.

Play with limits

A fast game with a large top multiplier can make rounds feel like they are slipping away. Set a time or coin limit before you start, and see Play Safely in Cashout Arcade: Limits and Breaks for the tools. Cashout Arcade is for adults aged 18+ and is entertainment only.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to reach 2x or 10x?

The multiplier is e raised to 0.00006 times the milliseconds elapsed. That is about 11.6 seconds to 2.00x, 38.4 seconds to 10.00x and 76.8 seconds to 100.00x.

Can the round crash at 1.00x?

Yes. About 3.96% of rounds crash at exactly 1.00x before anyone can cash out. That is part of how the 3% house edge is built, and it is the same for every player.

Does a slow connection matter?

Cash-outs are judged on our server, which allows a 150 millisecond grace window for network delay. A tap that arrives later than that on a round that has already crashed loses. An auto cash-out is decided on the server and does not depend on your tap.

Can I win real money?

No. Crash uses virtual coins with no cash value. They cannot be withdrawn or exchanged for prizes.
