How Balloon Pop plays
- Tap a balloon to throw a dart at it. A prize balloon adds to your pot.
- Orange pays the least, then blue and yellow. Pink pays the most.
- Tap Cash out to keep the pot, or keep popping for more.
The rule people miss: Pop a grey skull balloon and the round ends: you lose the bet.
Balloon Pop is a dart-and-balloon collecting game with a skill element. A corkboard holds 25 balloons: most hide prize tickets that add to a pot, and a few are duds. Pop a ticket and the pot grows; pop a dud and the round ends with the pot lost. You can cash out to bank the pot at any point after your first pop.
Coins are virtual and have no cash value. Unlike Mines: how to play, odds and RTP, where each pick has a fixed price, Balloon Pop shows you the board, so your stopping decisions carry real weight. It is a game where your choices change your return.
How a round works
- Choose a board: 3, 5 or 8 duds. Set your bet.
- Tap a balloon to throw a dart at it. The first pop is compulsory.
- A prize balloon adds its ticket value to your pot. A grey skull balloon is a dud and ends the round, losing the pot.
- Tap Cash out to bank the pot, or keep popping. If every ticket is popped, the round completes and pays the full pot.
The balloons are shuffled on our servers when the round starts, so which one you tap has no influence.
The boards
Orange balloons pay the least, then blue and yellow, and pink pays the most (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Star tickets). Values are multiples of your bet.
| Board | Orange (Bronze) | Blue (Silver) | Yellow (Gold) | Pink (Star) | Duds | Biggest pot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 duds | 13 at 0.10x | 6 at 0.24x | 2 at 0.85x | 1 at 2.5x | 3 | 6.94x |
| 5 duds | 12 at 0.13x | 5 at 0.38x | 2 at 1.20x | 1 at 4x | 5 | 9.86x |
| 8 duds | 10 at 0.20x | 4 at 0.56x | 2 at 1.75x | 1 at 6x | 8 | 13.74x |
Each cell shows how many tickets of that kind are on the board and what each adds to the pot. All 25 balloons are on the board: 22, 20 and 17 tickets plus the duds. The 13.74x pot on the 8-dud board is the biggest Balloon Pop win. The shared limits for all games are on the odds page.
The on-screen hint
Because the counts left on the board are public, the game can show you the pot, the chance that the next balloon is a dud, the average pot you would have after one more pop, and which move is better. Early on, with a small pot, the answer is nearly always to pop. Later, when the pot is big and the duds make up a larger share of what is left, the answer flips to bank.
| Board | Balloons left | Pot now | Dud chance | Average pot after one more pop | Best move |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 duds | all 25, nothing popped | 0 | 12.0% | 0.28x | pop (the first pop is compulsory) |
| 3 duds | 22 tickets, 1 orange popped | 0.10x | 12.5% | 0.37x | pop |
| 3 duds | 8 orange, 4 blue, 2 yellow, 1 pink left, 3 duds | 0.98x | 16.7% | 1.15x | pop |
| 3 duds | 4 orange, 2 blue, 1 yellow left, pink gone | 5.21x | 30.0% | 3.82x | bank |
| 8 duds | 5 orange, 3 blue, 1 yellow, 1 pink left | 3.31x | 44.4% | 2.42x | bank |
These are exact values from the game's maths, shown as examples of how the hint reads.
The return depends on how you play
With the best stopping rule on each board, the game returns 97.00% (3 duds), 96.81% (5 duds) and 96.97% (8 duds). Any other rule returns less. Cashing out as soon as the first pop allows returns only 27.7% (3 duds), 39.4% (5 duds) and 54.9% (8 duds) of your bet on average, which is the cost of stopping too early. The exact figures are stated on the game's info sheet and the odds page.
A worked example
You bet 100 coins on the 3-dud board. The first pop is a dud 12% of the time, so you lose 100 at once about one round in eight. Otherwise you most likely hit an orange (13 of 25 balloons, 52%) for a 10-coin pot, and the hint says pop: the average pot after the next pop is 37 coins. You carry on until the hint says bank. Suppose you reach a 521-coin pot (5.21x) with the pink ticket already popped and 10 balloons left, three of them duds: 30% of the time the next balloon wipes you out, and the average pot after one more pop is only 382 coins, so you bank 521.
Max win and caps
The 13.74x pot on the 8-dud board is the largest Balloon Pop payout. It is far below the game-wide limits of 50,000x the bet and 250,000,000 coins per round, and it needs every ticket on the board to be popped without hitting a dud.
What is the same as other balloon and board games
Pump: How It Works, Odds and Payouts is the other balloon game, but its pop chance is fixed and no strategy is involved. Mole Bash: How It Works, Odds and Payouts also pays by what you collect before a bomb, but there the order is random and the game values your cash-out for you. Balloon Pop is the one where you read a board and decide. For skill in general, see Skill vs Chance in Arcade and Casino-Style Games.
Tips that hold up
- Follow the hint. It is exact, not a rule of thumb, and it is the only way to reach the 97%.
- Do not bank at the first chance. A one-pop cash-out is the worst-value play in the game.
- A bigger pot is a reason to stop, not to push. The risk you carry grows with the pot.
- The board is not rigged by your tap. The layout was fixed before you played.
Play with limits
Collecting games feel like you are building something, which makes it hard to stop. Decide your limit before you start, and see Play Safely in Cashout Arcade: Limits and Breaks for tools. Cashout Arcade is for adults aged 18+, uses virtual coins and has no real-money prizes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the strategy in Balloon Pop?
The board shows what is left, and the game works out the chance of a dud and the expected pot after the next pop. Best play is to keep popping while the expected pot is higher than your current pot, and bank when it is not.
Why does cashing out after one pop lose money?
The first pop already risks a dud (12%, 20% or 32%) for a small ticket. On average a one-pop cash-out returns only 27.7%, 39.4% or 54.9% of your bet with 3, 5 or 8 duds.
Is the layout fixed before I pop?
Yes. The 25 balloons are shuffled on our servers when the round starts, so the one you tap does not change what is behind it.
Can I win real money?
No. Coins are virtual and have no cash value.
