How Dragon Egg plays

  1. Set your bet.
  2. Tap to play. The result is decided the moment you play.
  3. The animation is the reveal. You win your bet times the multiplier shown.

The rule people miss: 0x means no win. Anything above 0x pays your bet times that number.

Dragon Egg is an instant game built on a doubling ladder. The egg either fails to hatch or produces a small Hatchling worth 0.5x, and then it keeps evolving, each stage twice as valuable as the last. The chance of each further evolution is the same, so the odds of every new tier shrink steadily while the pay doubles.

How a round works

  1. Set your bet and tap to hatch. Everything below is decided on our servers at that moment.
  2. The egg is a dud 38.73% of the time and pays 0x.
  3. Otherwise a Hatchling appears, worth 0.5x.
  4. The dragon then tries to evolve. Each attempt succeeds with a 42% chance and doubles the pay; the first failure stops it. At most 10 evolutions can happen.
  5. Your bet is multiplied by the final stage's pay.

The evolving is shown as an animation. Nothing you do between hatching and the reveal changes the stage.

Each stage after the Hatchling is about 42% as likely as the one before it and pays twice as much. Overall 61.3% of eggs pay something and 10.8% pay more than the bet (a Drake or better). The return is 96.987%.

Worked example

Say the egg hatches and then evolves twice before failing. The ladder is Hatchling 0.5x, Whelp 1x, Drake 2x, so the dragon ends as a Drake and pays 2x: a bet of 100 coins returns 200 coins. The chance of exactly this path is 61.27% x 42% x 42% x 58%, which is 6.27%.

Look at the pattern: every stage pays double and appears at 42% of the previous stage's odds. The product, the chance times the pay, falls by 16% at each step (0.42 x 2 = 0.84), so the early stages carry most of the return, and the top stages (128x to 512x) add very little to the average. The Dragon King is reached by a dragon that evolves 10 times in a row, a 0.42^10 event after hatching, which is the chance in the last row of the table.

Max win and limits

The top, the Dragon King, pays 512x the bet. The game-wide limits (50,000x the bet and 250,000,000 coins per round) are not reachable. Volatility is high: the median result is a dud or a Hatchling, and the high stages are rare events. One round in about 1,700 is a Wyrm (128x) or better.

What matters and what does not

  • Tapping to "help" the hatching: has no effect. The stage was decided when you pressed play.
  • Previous eggs: no memory. A string of duds does not raise the next egg's chance.
  • Bet size: scales the coin amounts only.

A fair summary: the game gives you a lot of small outcomes (a dud or a Hatchling is 74% of rounds) and a thin spread of big ones. If you prefer to know how that kind of spread behaves over time, volatility explained has the numbers.

How it differs from other instant games

Fishing combines two independent draws (a fish and its size), while Dragon Egg is one chain of repeated tries. Lucky Cookie has a flatter table: its biggest slip is 25x against 512x here, but it is far less likely to pay nothing.

Play with limits

Coins are virtual, have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn or exchanged for prizes. For adults (18+), for entertainment. Set a time limit before you play; see playing safely in Cashout Arcade.
