How to Set App Spending Limits on iPhone

Block or limit in-app purchases on iPhone with Screen Time and Ask to Buy, check your spending, and use the spend limit and breaks inside Cashout Arcade.

On this page

Steps

  1. Open Screen Time. In Settings, tap Screen Time and make sure it is turned on.
  2. Go to the App Store restrictions. Tap Apps & Websites, then App Store (on earlier iOS versions, Content & Privacy Restrictions, then iTunes & App Store Purchases).
  3. Block in-app purchases. Tap In-app Purchases and choose Blocked (earlier versions: Don't Allow).
  4. Protect the setting. Set a Screen Time passcode that someone else holds, or one you will not remember in the moment.

The strongest limit on spending is the one you cannot change in the moment. On iPhone, Screen Time can block in-app purchases altogether, and Cashout Arcade adds its own monthly spend limit and breaks. This guide shows both, with the steps taken from Apple's own support pages.

Why limits help

Spending decisions are easier before you are in the game than during it. A limit decided in advance and held by someone else, or protected by a passcode you do not know, takes the choice off the table when a countdown or a run of losses is pushing you. A limit is a safeguard for entertainment spending, not a way to recover losses.

Block in-app purchases with Screen Time

Apple's instructions: first turn on Screen Time if it is off, then:

  1. Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap Apps & Websites, then App Store.
  3. Tap In-app Purchases and select Blocked.
  4. Optionally require a password for future App Store purchases.

Apple's iPhone User Guide also describes the same control under Screen Time, Content & Privacy Restrictions, iTunes & App Store Purchases, then In-app Purchases, Don't Allow, and on some versions it may be the only path you see. If you set a Screen Time passcode, choose one you cannot easily recall, or ask a friend or family member to enter it.

With purchases blocked, you can still play every free part of Cashout Arcade.

Ask to Buy for family members

If you manage a child's or family member's iPhone through Family Sharing, Ask to Buy sends each purchase to you for approval. Apple's steps (its page names iOS 27 and iOS 26): open Settings, tap Family, tap the person's name, then Apps & Websites, Restrictions, Ask to Buy, and turn on Require Purchase Approval. Cashout Arcade is for adults aged 18 and over, and the App Store rates it 18+, so it is not an app for children; Ask to Buy is useful for the other apps on a shared account.

Remove saved payment methods

Fewer saved payment methods means more friction. In your Apple account settings, remove the card from your Apple Account payment methods, or keep only a gift card balance you have topped up in advance. We have not verified the exact menu path for every iOS version, so we do not give one here; Apple's Support site covers "change, add or remove Apple Account payment methods".

Check what you have spent

Apple emails a receipt for every purchase. Search your inbox for "receipt from Apple" or look in your Apple Account's purchase history. In Cashout Arcade the monthly spend limit tracks your purchases for you.

If a charge was a mistake, you can ask Apple for a refund: sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose I'd like to, then Request a refund. Refunds are Apple's decision; our terms say purchases are non-refundable except as the law and Apple's policies require.

Use the limits inside Cashout Arcade

Open the app, go to Settings, then Play responsibly:

  • Monthly spend limit. Choose a maximum for coin-pack purchases each month. The choices run from $25 to $500. Lowering or setting a first limit applies at once; raising or removing it takes effect after 24 hours.
  • Take a break. Pause betting for 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. Breaks are enforced on our servers and cannot be ended early.

Set app time limits

Screen Time can also cap time in an app. Open Settings, Screen Time, App Limits and add Cashout Arcade or the Games category. Apple's page for this specific feature was not part of the sources we checked, so confirm the path on your device.

If you are trying to stop

Uninstalling and blocking is stronger than limiting. See Gambling Blockers: Gamban, BetBlocker and Bank Blocks for blocking tools and Social Casino Spending: How In-App Purchases Work for how spending in these apps works. If you cancel Club Pass, do it before you delete the app or the account: deleting does not cancel a subscription, and the cancel button is in your iPhone's Settings under your name and Subscriptions.
